Feast your eyes on this year’s Thanksgiving
Whether it’s a turkey centrepiece surrounded by all the family, something sophisticated and seasonal, or a vegan ‘Friendsgiving’ feast with your nearest and dearest pals, we’re taking a look at the US brands who are catering for every table this Thanksgiving holiday.
Serving up value
It’s not just every type of table that’s looked after, it’s every budget too... with grocery stores tussling over turkeys and clobbering over corn bread to see who can offer the most Thanksgiving bang for the buck! With $50, six to eight mouths to feed and a 14-item grocery list, WPTV found that Kroger, Walmart and Aldi all came out with money to spare.
Dishing out convenience
It’s also safe to say that a traditional Thanksgiving dinner can be a bit of a…production. There’s turkey to stuff, potatoes to mash, pies to prepare and the list goes on. Fortunately, if you’ve a little more cash to splash, a few places will do all the hard work for you. All the dishes come pre-prepared, so all you need to do is turn up the heat. A few familiar names like Kroger and Meijer all have unique offerings with varying price points, but top of the pile is Whole Foods, with a Festive Feast for 12. That’ll set you back $279.
Some grocers go a few steps further, offering a curbside pickup service. Customers rock up to collect their feast and it’s all ready to go - they don’t even have to leave their cars. Could this be the epitome of convenience for the holiday season? Not if you want it straight to your door! Winn-Dixie offers groceries delivered within the hour and we know because we worked on the campaign! You can check it out right here and judging by the success of these ventures, the turkey drive-thru and door-to-door delivery are definitely here to stay.
Plating up something for everyone
Stocking turkeys on shelves has seen employees at Wegmans adopt a stretching regime to prevent injury... but the modern-day Thanksgiving has certainly evolved from butter-basted birds and pork stuffing! For those who follow a more plant-based diet, the grocery market doesn’t disappoint. Trader Joe’s has long been a favourite of vegetarians and vegans, so it’s no surprise they offer a slew of creative, and traditional Thanksgiving treats for vegans and non-vegans alike.
Trader Joe’s aren’t the only ones serving up some plant power. Target, Walmart, Sprouts, Kroger, Wegmans and Whole Foods all have something to appeal to their diverse community of shoppers.
Giving back
Besides food, friends, family and fun, there’s a crucial part to this most American of holidays and the clue’s in the name. It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without the giving part and many brands are giving back this holiday season. Meijer’s “Don’t Just Share the Photo, Share the Meal” approach leverages the power of social media to help the hungry. For each food photo publicly posted, Meijer will contribute a meal to its Simply Give program, up to the value of $1 million.
Presenting our verdict
For our Thanksgiving focus, we’ve been helping Winn-Dixie to ‘bring the love’ this holiday season. Often, as we’ve seen, the celebratory feast is shown on its lonesome in campaigns, so this year we gave it some company... and we’re inviting you in to take your seat at the table.
There’s a real human touch (pardon the pun ;)) with hands dishing up the feast, clinking glasses, smiles around the table and even a quick Thanksgiving selfie! It’s a warm, personal representation of the holiday because however Thanksgiving is served up, if it’s with love and surrounded by friendly faces you’re definitely onto a winner.
